A Brief History of Daydream Misfit
Founded in 2024 by surreal artist Katty Pulsar, the quaint township of Daydream Misfit, known for its imagery, writing, and weird projects, has become a popular entertainment destination for discriminating travelers the world over.
With a permanent population of less than 100, our little municipality prides itself on earnestness, hard work, and surreal writing and design intended to stimulate positive hormone secretion to make you happy. We're proud to be one of the only places in the world with dopamine and adrenaline geysers open to legal public nude bathing.
Our local crafters and independent artists are always busy creating weird images for your enjoyment, and our small artisanal farmers pride themselves on bringing the best surreal fiction and absurd projects to market (in season).
Daydream Misfit teeters on the edge of experimental wilderness, and sportsmen find no shortage of things to do, from primitive bow-and-arrow duck hunts to dry ice fishing to hang-gliding fossil hunts. An exciting adventure of thrills awaits!
Welcome to Daydream Misfit. Surreal art. Surreal fiction. You'll love it here.
Where to Go During Your Visit
From the old cabin where Mary Winthrop poisoned her husband to the water tower where they trapped that rabid kid that time, there's no shortage of fun and fascinating sites to see in Daydream Misfit.
Stop 01 -- The Gallery District
Put on your best outfit and wine-tour your way through distinct boutiques offering original designs, strange imagery, and off-the-wall projects and stories. See and be seen!
8 Gallery -- This is the Daydream Misfit "gumbo" surreal images gallery, where selections from across Daydream Misfit history are added weekly. Removed from their context, these pictures are allowed to bounce against each other, throwing off sparks and creating new meanings. A must for discriminating connoisseurs.
Personal Growths -- Daydream Misfit's gallery of body-horror/body-humor motivational affirmations posters. Remembering that we're all just bone-bags filled with meat, bone, puss and blood is the best way to get over your blockages. Dark humor to check out if you need a reason to live.
Area 97 -- The alien truth about that fateful night in the New Mexico desert, June 15th, 1971. A UFO invasion fiction love story on a cosmic scale and a reminder that languages have barriers and cultures have strange points-of-view. Images by Katty Pulsar, words by Neil Oldman, and colors by Raven Storm.
Summer Spirits -- Cosmic cats strut through the night accompanied by ancestral spirit guides. Daydream Misfit's cat cafe, except the cafe is the universe. Psychedelic cat art for you.
Nobody Asked Her -- Strong, independent women will have their say. Enjoy open mic night at the philosophy slam with a series of images inspired by (but not restrained by) the pinup genre, accompanied by famous and not-so-famous quotes from feminist leaders, artists, writers, and academics.
Sleep is No Escape -- The world dies screaming in this Lovecraft-inspired project. Humanity is besieged by dark forces and insanity is the only solution to escape the cosmic horror. Dark surreal art with words by Neil Oldman and images by Katty Pulsar and Raven Storm.
Mania -- Is madness clarity? Sometimes we see through the chain-veil to remember that all is vibration. When energy dances with matter, who leads? Color operating the strings on the marionette of physical reality. Letters as molecules coalescing into words and stringing themselves together with threads of breath to pronounce the dream logic of what will and won't be possible. Sex hormone pitter-patter pulse of euphoric twining. Settled stillness of the house in the house of the house is now clean. I had so much to share. Mania. Scrawls by Raven Storm.
Desideratum -- A gothic gallery of black-and-white still images. In beautiful monochrome black and white, this picture set is historically significant as the first visual project produced specifically for Daydream Misfit.
Zoo Trip -- The Daydream Misfit zoo. All visitors are required to take a dose of LSD in order to fully appreciate the animals. The animals definitely appreciate you. Spend some time and say hello to the panda, the lion, the giraffe, the lemurs, the zebra, the gorilla, the chimpanzee, and all your other relatives. Get to know the creatures we share a planet with on an intimate and unusual visual experience in psychedelic art.
Texture Foraging -- Neil Oldman steps into the world to collect "Finder Compositions" of curious textures and interesting color shapes. Texture photography with edits and crops by Katty Pulsar. Fascinating patterns are all around us, we just have to take the time to slow down and look.
Stop 02 -- Bohemia
Watch your balance as you step over passed-out poets. Enjoy the bloviating of hard-living writers who have a drink in one hand and the answers to everything. Rants, strong opinions, fictional farces, unreliable narrators, and stories that can quit anytime they want to.
Daydream Misfit Blog -- Home for short stories, experiments, absurdism, snippets, and promotions for new projects. Definitely sign the visitors' log because this is how we keep in touch with all our family and friends.
Confessions and Lies -- Neil Oldman's rants, observations, fancies, and fake-outs. This is Neil's diary of heartfelt and personal true stories along with fabrications he came up with on the toilet. Entries include emotionally important episodes in Neil's life with no filters and no names changed to protect the guilty, biased versions of events manufactured to protect the author's fragile ego and sense of self-worth, and shameless concoctions by a bored asshole who shits on everything and can't stop shooting the world the bird.
You Have Been Selected to Participate in a Game -- The enigmatic founder and CEO of Nexfjord Technologies, Henrik Søren Vintergaard, is presumed dead after disappearing during a solo sailing expedition off the coast of Norway in 2022. Vintergaard, a lifelong fanatic of both art and puzzles, had deeply encoded software designed to activate upon his death which would generate and maintain a Game for public access. Or so it is rumored. If you are reading this, you have been selected to participate in a game.
Stop 03 -- The Shops
A collection of curiosities, creatures, objects and other things worth investigating. Souvenirs for the most discriminating shoppers.
