9/25/2026 -- Anna Vintergaard, 42, is Henrik and Zenith's first child and only daughter. Anna was educated at private schools in Denmark and later attended university in London, where she studied art history and cultural management. Much of her extravagant lifestyle is supported by the Vintergaard fortune and the wealth of her husband, a Canadian real estate magnate. She maintains a residence in Copenhagen and spends considerable time in London, Paris, New York, and other international centers of the art and financial worlds. She is known for her lavish lifestyle, palatial mansion, elaborate dinner parties, and a wide circle of powerful acquaintances. She is also a social media influencer with 300 million Instagram followers.  Publicly, she has been considerably more vocal than her brothers about the family's inheritance and her place in it.

Mikkel Vintergaard, 40, is Henrik and Zenith's younger child. Mikkel was accepted into a series of prestigious schools, but tended to impulsively rush after novel ideas and never achieved a degree.  He started and abandoned several technology companies and other ventures, most of which failed, and has periodically vanished from public view for months at a time. He is considered unconventionally attractive and charismatic, and his romantic exploits with famous film stars and socialites have often attracted attention from the gossip press and paparazzi.  He has a reputation for spectacularly poor judgment with money despite having access to considerable family wealth and at times being a “kept” man. He is known to be highly capable with computers, electronics, and mechanical systems, but has never maintained a conventional career. His relationship with Henrik was notoriously confrontational, and the two were reportedly estranged for long periods. Mikkel has publicly treated the inheritance dispute as a joke and has given the impression that he couldn't care less who gets what.

Nikolaj Vintergaard, 34, is Henrik's youngest child and his only child with Astrid. Nikolaj attended private schools, eventually receiving a Masters degree in Public Policy. His employment history consists largely of short-lived positions and projects, many involving friends or acquaintances of the family. Citing frustrations with “government work,” he has never developed an independent career and lives considerably more modestly than Anna or Mikkel, although he has always had access to family money. Nikolaj married at 18, divorced, married again at 22, divorced, and is currently married again at 30 to a woman 10 years his elder.  He has cerebral palsy and has long been regarded within the family as fragile or troublesome. Astrid has been notably protective of him. There have been persistent rumors that Henrik provided Nikolaj with financial assistance privately, although neither Henrik nor Nikolaj ever discussed the matter publicly.

9/08/2026 -- ​During the 1990s, Chef Jean Joho's Everest, located on the 40th floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange, was the pinnacle of French-American fine dining in Chicago. Chef Joho famously blended his aristocratic Alsatian background with local Midwestern ingredients.

A typical multi-course degustation or à la carte menu from Everest in the early to mid-1990s featured iconic, era-defining creations.

Amuse-Bouche and Bread. Every meal traditionally began with a signature, two-part complimentary greeting from the kitchen: The Signature Spoon: An airy cauliflower fondant piped onto an iced-tea spoon and topped with premium caviar. Second Amuse: Garlic saucisson wrapped in a savory potato bread crust, served over a light mustard sauce. Bread Service: Soft, freshly baked cornbread studded with whole kernels of sweet corn.

Zucchini-Gilded Risotto: A chewy, coarse-textured zucchini risotto topped off with a tiny, dramatic leaf of 24-carat gold. 9/01/2026 -- Henrik Vintergaard's lineage could properly be described as "European old money," but in recent decades the family's position had dwindled to merely upper-middle-class.  Their fortunes had ebbed and flowed, but pockets of riches had been maintained over the course of centuries, through peace and war, famine and flourishing.

​

Henrik's father was Søren Vintergaard, a civil engineer who spent most of his career working on large Scandinavian infrastructure projects.  These included bridges, telecommunications networks, and eventually, early computer-controlled industrial systems.  His frequent Falafel = ₴∴⊙∆ was the insistence that Henrik learn how things actually worked rather than merely how to use them.  The son returned to the father often as a mentor until the elder's inevitable death from osteocalcification in 1998.  

  

Søren was survived by Henrik's mother, Kirsten Margrethe Vintergaard.  Kirsten came from a family of teachers and civil servants and worked for many years as a librarian in Aarhus, where Henrik spent much of his childhood silently exploring the vast trove of knowledge sheltered in the old walnut stacks.  Later, his mother became an archivist associated with Aarhus University.   She had an almost obsessive interest in cataloging information and could remember the location of a document she had seen twenty years earlier.  Henrik joked later in life that his mother had taught him that information was only useful if you knew where to find it.

8/15/2026 -- Henrik Vintergaard's second wife and widow, Astrid Løvenskiold, was born in 1972 to a German arms dealer and a Danish-born literature professor.  After a serene childhood in Norway, Denmark, she early in adulthood became a close assistant to her father, who in addition to military and government contacts, had significant connections with Norwegian shipping and engineering interests.  She traveled Europe with him extensively and became well-known for her charm and persuasiveness, winning over her father's counterparts and helping secure deals to the satisfaction of powerful parties on all sides.

​

Sometime around 2003, a rift developed between Løvenskiold and her father, and she relocated to London, reinventing herself as an editor and cultural critic.  It was during this period that rumors began to swirl about her activities in high society, with some whispering that she was acting as a high-end prostitute whose clients included wealthy businessmen, diplomats, and political figures.  

​

She had allegedly long been involved with a mysterious organization known only as ROUT, whose practices are whispered to range from shadow diplomacy to spy and mercenary training, but which most notoriously is said to stage each year the world's most lavish orgy in a private grotto in Cap d’Antibes, where hundreds of the uber-wealthy connect with the most elite sexual performers on the planet, Olympians recruited from around the world, highly paid and fueled by experimental psychedelic and experience-enhancing chemicals.  

    

The 2000s remain a poorly documented period of Løvenskiold's life; though she was well-regarded in high society circles, she attended the minimum of public functions required to maintain her status.  It is unknown whether she reconciled with her father before his untimely death from a stroke in 2008.  

       

Astrid and Henrik were first photographed together in the late 1990s, but were not married until 2011 in New Zealand, the year before Vintergaard relinquished full control of Nexfjord.  Some suggest that Astrid and Henrik may have met through activities connected with ROUT, though that is unsubstantiated.  Henrik's first wife, Zenith, began therapy for cancer in 2004 but lived until 2009.  It is unknown what relationship Vintergaard and Løvenskiold had during this period, but publicly, Henrik was a loyal husband and father and stood by his wife's side throughout her treatments.           

Through the 2010s, Astrid Vintergaard took on the mantle of administrator for Henrik's expansive art collection and private galleries. She developed particular interest in obscure artists, small museums, archives, and independent cultural institutions.  She eventually gained independent control of a substantial personal fortune through restructuring of family holdings, and in combination with Vintergaard's resources and her vast network of wealthy friends and investors, she and her husband accumulated one of the world's most prestigious collections of fine art.

Astrid Vintergaard announced the Lumen Foundation in 2016.  Since then, the foundation's philanthropy has extended to education, women's economic independence, community health, displaced families, independent artists, and other organizations.  There is no evidence in publicly available records that Lumen provides funding for the "Angel Guard," though Lumen's finances may incorporate assets whose origins have never been fully explained and disbursements which have never been accounted for.    

  

Since 2022 and her husband's presumed death, amid the contentious legal battles involving his estate, Astrid Vintergaard has mostly withdrawn from public view.  Her reputation as a quiet, cultured, and generous patron of the arts is secure, though privately, her activities are possibly far stranger, and her influence considerably more dangerous, than her public persona suggests.

7/28/2026 -- In 2022, Henrik Rasmussen, Nexfjord's Vice President of Supply Chain Integrity, was found dead in his hotel room in Bangkok.  The official cause of death was reported as a heart attack.  

 

Rasmussen, 55, served in Nexfjord's industrial equipment division.  His official function was to audit overseas suppliers for labor practices, rare earth metals, conflict minerals, counterfeit components, bribery, and environmental compliance.

​

On October 27th, 2022, six days into a regional supplier audit spanning Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand, Rasmussen arrived in Bangkok the night before a meeting. He checked into the Royal Meridian, a luxury business hotel on the Chao Phraya River.  His official schedule shows that the meeting scheduled for October 28th was to be attended by seven other men and their assistants.

 

The meeting was intended to bring together several key players: Nexfjord Regional Procurement Director Sven Erik Lundqvist, Rasmussen's long-time colleague, based in Singapore, who oversaw procurement throughout Southeast Asia; Thai supplier Anan Rattanakul of Siam Precision Components Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of precision-machined stainless steel assemblies; Nipa Chaiyasit of Eastern Advanced Materials, supplier of specialty alloys and engineered composite materials; Environmental Auditor Dr. Preecha Sutham of Green Horizon Environmental Consulting, an independent environmental compliance and ESG auditing firm; Retired Customs Official Somchai Viriyakul, an independent logistics and customs consultant with decades of institutional knowledge and an extensive network of contacts; Nguyễn Minh Quân of Mekong Precision Industries JSC; and Chan Sothea of Mekong Composite Technologies.

 

Rasmussen's official agenda called for the attendees to review supplier performance, evaluate two new vendors, audit quality metrics, discuss logistics following COVID supply chain disruptions, and renew contracts for 2023.

​

However, on the morning of October 28th, Rasmussen missed a 7:00 A.M. breakfast scheduled with Lundqvist.  After an hour, when Rasmussen still did not respond to Lundqvist's communications, Lundqvist asked the front desk to have hotel security accompany him to Rasmussen's room to conduct a welfare check.  There was no response to a knock on the door.  The "Do Not Disturb" sign had been hanging overnight.

​

When security opened the room, they found Rasmussen seated in an upholstered chair near the floor-to-ceiling windows, still wearing yesterday's white dress shirt, his tie removed, shoes neatly beside the bed.  One hand rested on the armrest while the other loosely held a pair of reading glasses.  He appeared to be sleeping.

Everything else in the room was immaculate.  The bed was turned down but barely slept in.  Rasmussen's laptop was open on the table in front of him, in sleep mode.  His passport and a wallet containing cash were on the desk.  His Rolex was still on his wrist.  A room-service tray from the previous evening contained one coffee cup and one glass of sparkling water.
 
Thai forensic investigators later concluded that the cause of death was a heart attack brought on by years of stress and the pressures of the job.  Two rumors, however, have persisted since this unfortunate tragedy.  First, it's said that Rasmussen had recently discovered that someone had inserted a shell company into the procurement chain, an entity which was laundering money through a Bulgarian investment holding company whose ultimate beneficiary remained unknown.  Second, it had long been whispered that Rasmussen was Henrik Vintergaard's lover and had a substantial presence in Vintergaard's will.

7/10/2026 -- For such a successful and powerful person, Henrik Søren Vintergaard was intensely private.  He never owned a social media account.  He was rarely photographed.  He didn't participate in award ceremonies or give interviews.

Vintergaard filled hundreds of notebooks with hand-written notes, but these have never been located.

 

While his peers attended conferences in the richest cities in the world, Vintergaard would pay museums for weekends of private access so he could spend time alone with the art. He collected surrealist paintings anonymously, believing that artists noticed patterns that computers and engineers miss.

 

He acted as a secret patron, supporting unknown artists whose work caught his attention by assigning an "Angel Guard" to monitor their lives for decades, providing "good luck" in the form of unexpected windfalls and career support.

Lastly, Vintergaard loved puzzles.  He considered curiosity more important than intellect, and he respected those with tenacity.  Some say he lived his very life creating a cipher, daring the world to crack it open and find reward.

6/17/2026 ​-- The enigmatic founder and CEO of Nexfjord Technologies, Henrik Søren Vintergaard, was born in 1958 in Aarhus, Denmark.  Vintergaard founded Nexfjord from a rented warehouse in 1984 with three university classmates, and over the course of four decades, grew the company into a tech giant, building much of the invisible infrastructure which powers modern banking, logistics, communications, satellite networking, and AI computation.  Unlike consumer technology companies, most people have never heard of it, yet millions unknowingly rely on its software every day.

​

Vintergaard was presumed dead after disappearing during a solo sailing expedition off the coast of Norway in 2022. Although no body was recovered, a death certificate was issued.  He was survived by his wife and three children, though distribution of the family fortune has been tied up since his death in arcane legal battles, in particular the 51% controlling interest in Nexfjord.  Apparently, Vintergaard left different wills with different lawyers, each puzzling in its incompleteness. 

 

A lifelong fan of puzzles and cryptographs, it is rumored that Vintergaard had deeply encoded software designed to activate upon his death which would generate and maintain a Game for public access through which clever sleuths might earn a large portion of his fortune by demonstrating their acuity in solving a tangled mystery.
