A hurricane of madness as lightning crashes and two great beasts do battle in the sky.

Neil Oldman Past/Present/Future Review 10/19/2026

First off, we got slammed here in Pensacola by Hurricane Isaias. We didn't personally experience much damage, but many people did. Trees down everywhere, and it's not hard to find huge oaks which crushed houses. And of course, many, many downed power-lines.

Guillermo De Córdova as Mr. Montel in Love After Death (1968) in a black-and-white still photo from the movie.

Love After Death Movie Review

Love After Death is a black-and-white movie from 1968, filmed in New York and dubbed in English over Spanish. The film opens on a wake (of a body, not of a storm, where is my mind exactly?), but the eyes of the "corpse" are blinking. The paralyzed man looks up at the attendees peering into his coffin, a woman, Sofia, and his best friend, and a doctor he knows by name, and a couple of thugs, and pleads that he is only having a cataleptic fit and to please not bury him. "Who

Weirdcore vs. Dreamcore

Weirdcore’s four arms and razor claws slashed forward toward the heart of Dreamcore. Where they struck the rival’s flesh, blisters bubbled and leaked, the fluid inside winding out like purseworms. The sinewy worms wrapped around Weirdcore’s paw, and with a sucking acidic slurp, severed it at the joint. When the wriggling tentacles unclenched, Weirdcore’s wound released a golden powder which buzzed upward in a spiral. Weirdcore howled with anguish and confusion, but within

Bento Abyss

It's a bento box which might serve tentacles, burning coals, tiny Barbies, little green peas in cream, and one pierced human lip, each entree confined in a strict, impervious rectangle.

Neil Oldman Past/Present/Future Review 9/28/2026

scatterplat In personal news, I got the lease taken care of, I think anyway, so I don’t have to worry about that for a year. Planning a trip to New Orleans next month with Raven to see some oddities, so that should be fun, as well as various local events. I’m seriously mulling over the idea of moving huge elements of the Daydream Misfit project into a press and producing small batches of hard product. The website would then be considered the sandbox for excavating tangible

Purpose

Daydream Misfit website and blog publishes surreal short stories, dark visual imagery, offbeat experimental writing and design, and cultural satire. I'd love to connect with weird-fiction, alt-reality and indie-zine readers.

Over the years, I've written dozens of stories and created hundreds of handmade drawings and paintings. Now I'm exploring AI (typically Ideogram, heavily edited in Gimp) as a new tool, wrestling with the implications and leaning into the weirdness.

I'm spectrumy. I'm restless creatively and all over the place. Algorithms don't like that I'm eclectic. But I'm not a brand. I'm not a niche. And that's not going to change.

The Daydream Misfit project is my way -- along with my wife, Katty Pulsar and our girlfriend, Raven Storm -- to engage in digital design series that explore surreal, emotionally ambiguous visual storytelling that blends dream logic, symbolic figures, and psychological tension.

I embrace colorful, trippy, absurd, raw, and authentic expression. Welcome to my sketchbook, diary, confessional booth, and curiosity shop. Expect fragmented dream-world narratives and tangents. I'm glad you could make it, and I hope you'll subscribe.

If you're new, a good place to start is HERE.

Weirdcore vs. Dreamcore: What’s the difference? Weirdcore uses unsettling, distorted, or uncanny imagery to evoke discomfort, confusion, and internet-era nostalgia. Dreamcore draws on dreamlike spaces, surreal landscapes, soft colors, and familiar but strange environments to recreate the atmosphere of dreams and half-remembered places. Both aesthetics explore surrealism, liminality, and nostalgia, but Weirdcore tends toward the disturbing and absurd, while Dreamcore leans toward the ethereal, mysterious, and otherworldly.
