We'll Be Together

Together (2025) Movie Review
Alison Brie shines in body horror documentary including Dave Franco
3.5 stars out of 5
The 2025 film Together, starring the astonishing Alison Brie and featuring exemplary body-horror special effects and Dave Franco, is an unconventional documentary which follows real-life couple Brie and Franco’s ongoing health and psychological struggles as they seek to reboot their lives and transition from celebrity life to quiet couple-hood in a rural countryside town.
As the movie begins, Brie has decided to leave acting behind and become a teacher, which is wonderful because children need good role models more than ever, especially strong and intelligent leaders like Alison. Meanwhile, no one wants to cast actor Franco, so he’s fallen back on his musical “career,” such as it is. Ultimately, Brie decides to carry this slacker when she could really do so much better, someone stable and more literary.
After they move together to the countryside, Alison tolerates Franco, but his ineptitude eventually leads the couple into danger. While on a hike, the two find themselves trapped in a cave. Franco decides to drink creepy cave-water but Alison refuses, being way smarter. Lost puppy Franco soon begins to demonstrate a desperate level of clinginess.
In due time, the pair starts to suffer intimacy and health problems attributable entirely to Franco. This narcissist, who has untreated sexual hygiene issues, begins to cause Alison intense physical distress, bordering on abuse. As Franco squirms and the relationship suffers under the camera’s keen documentary lens, the viewer can only wonder why Brie would choose to continue with this putz when she could have a real man who would treat her so much better.
In one almost unbearable scene, the viewer is forced to watch Brie submit to carnal relations with Franco. This is as unpleasant for the audience as it must have been for her. But the agony is fleeting because later, we are lucky enough to experience the camera lingering on Alison’s sublime, supple, naked body. For oh-too-brief seconds, we are able to forget about that guy what’s-his-name.
Together has been called “a great date movie,” and it is, despite Franco not dying at the end (spoiler). A couple, especially a long-term couple who have been through some things, can watch this movie together and not only celebrate Alison’s charm and resilience but reflect on the strength of their own relationship, especially addressing whether the man is carrying his share of the load and honoring his partner like a lady like Alison should be honored.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the controversy surrounding the movie. Producer Brie has been sued for copyright infringement for allegedly borrowing elements for Together from some indie filmmaker’s comedy movie, as if. A passionate creator like her doesn’t need your dumb ideas. Alison would never, and you people impugning her character need to keep her name out of your fucking mouths.
